Keep You XP Running After Support Phase

It is high time that Windows XP users migrated to a newer version of Windows, as Microsoft will be ending all support for Windows XP Service Pack 3 by July 2014. However, if you’d still love to cling to XP, this article will give you inside information on how to keep your XP running smoothly and safely, even after Microsoft withdraws support.

Once the due date is crossed, you can no longer expect Microsoft to release any security updates for the OS, or for fixing bugs. What makes this tough for most XP users is that once the support period is over, XP users cannot get any sort of technical assistance on either free or paid for basis.

The Windows XP, which is more than a decade old, is currently running on its extended support period, which is common for all Windows OS versions. Windows XP is pretty old, considering the exponential rise of operating systems currently due to Android and Apple; thus it is not exactly protected from future infiltrations. Many XP users are finding it hard to move on considering that it is still one of the most popular OS in existence.

One of the problems is that there might be individuals who have already found some exploits in XP, and are just holding back to till the support period ends so they can in other words “release the kraken”. Once attacked by the malware XP users will find it virtually impossible to get their systems repaired.

However, the activation servers would not be turned off once the support period for XP expires. This means that re-installing the operating system and activation of the OS will remain indefinitely. Microsoft may chose to disable the requirements to activate XP after some time once the support phase ends. To keep yourself updated it is better to consult the Microsoft blogs and Microsoft support site. To help with any current problems with XP you should contact Microsoft help and support team.

Before you perform a clean re-installation of Windows XP on your PCs, it is advisable to make a full image backup of your PC. This will make installation much faster than starting from square one, and all your updates will be present, which eliminates the need to download them again.

Only new updates will no longer be available for XP but Windows Update won’t stop working either. You can create a slipstream installation CD for XP with Service Pack 3 and any other updates till the end of support. Microsoft help and support team can help you with issues and security updates you wish to add, but get them before the support period ends.

How To Create A Booklet Using Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word help surprises you with the list of features and functions it provides. When you think of booklets, a stack of stapled papers usually comes to your mind. A booklet can be of any type. A small catalog of products is a booklet when it comes to business. Many colleges have booklets about their different courses and academic offerings. You can avoid much effort by creating a booklet using Microsoft Word.

Microsoft Word helps you in creating a booklet from an existing or blank document. There are special templates in Word and when you select a particular booklet setting, it will change the document properties automatically so that you can print a professional looking booklet.

Instructions
  • Launch Microsoft Word and open a New blank document.
  • From the File menu, select Page Setup to open the Page Setup dialog box. Check if the Margins tab is selected or else click the Margins tab to select it.
  • Go to the Multiple pages drop-down menu to select the Book fold option. This automatically changes the margin alignment of Left and Right to Inside and Outside.
  • Next, bring your Gutter to 0 and change the page orientation to Landscape.
  • Now you will have to enter new measurements for the Inside and Outside margins. The Inside margin indicates the space between the text and the edge of the page on the inside of the booklet. The Outside margin is similarly the space between the edge of your page and the text on the outside page. This is the amount of space you want for the Inside and Outside margins.
  • You can adjust the space along the fold to accommodate binding. You can increase the amount of Gutter in the Gutter box.
  • You can choose the number of pages you want to include in your booklet in the Sheets per booklet list. Keep in mind that if you have more number of pages in the document than the pages in the booklet, Word prints the document as multiple booklets (if the default number of pages is set to 16, anything more than this will be printed as additional booklets).
  • You can select any other options in the Page Setup dialog box.
  • You can add text, graphics and headers or footers like any other documents.
  • Click OK button to finally change your document to a booklet.
Try to create a booklet as a new document so that you can place the booklet elements appropriately. Go through the Microsoft Word help menu for more assistance if needed.

How To Fix Outlook WAB.DLL Error

Microsoft Outlook is a popular mailing application from Microsoft, using which people can manage their entire mails, journals, address, events, calendars, and much more. Though it is a versatile email program, sometimes Outlook may stop working due to various reasons.

Sometimes a bad PST or a bad DLL file can be the cause of the problem. One common DLL error that many Outlook users face is the WAB.DLL error. The two main reasons behind Outlook WAB.DLL error are either a bad DLL issue or old Outlook configurations.

The WAB.DLL file is an important part of the Outlook 2000 application. Sometimes when you try to open the Outlook 2000 address book, you might get the following error message, which says, “An error occurred while attempting to open the WAB. Unable to find the WAB.DLL". WAB means "Windows Address Book," and the WAB.DLL helps your computer retrieve the Outlook Address Book contact information.

Instructions

1. Go to the Start menu located on your Windows taskbar and click on Search. Select the option All Files and Folders.

2. Type in Wab32.dll into the Search text field and hit the Enter key on your keyboard.

3. You will be taken to the folder containing the WAB.DLL file. Right-click the file and select the option Rename. If you are unable to find the file, it means it was erased at some point of time, and you can proceed to Step 5.

4. Type Wab32.old to replace the original name and press the Enter key. Close the search window. Your address book information will remain intact after you rename the file because the WAB.DLL itself does not store the information. Rather, it allows the computer to access the information in another location.

5. Click Start, select Settings then click Control Panel.

6. Select Add/Remove Programs.

7. Click the Windows Setup tab at the top of the menu. Click the option Components, and then deselect the checkbox next to Microsoft Outlook Express. Now click the Apply button and wait for the program to uninstall.

8. Select the checkbox next to Microsoft Outlook Express. Click the Apply button to reinstall the program.

9. Finally restart your computer to let the changes take effect.

Outlook WAB.DLL error can also be caused due to bad registry or virus infections. Such Outlook errors can often be fixed using a powerful registry cleaner or an anti-virus program. Now you know how to fix the Outlook Address Book WAB.DLL error in your Outlook Express application. For further assistance, contact the Outlook support team and get your issue solved quickly.
