Steps To Recover The Administrator Password In Windows XP

Most of us face issues while installing new programs in our systems, as we would not be having access to the administrator password. This is because without access to the administrator account of your Windows XP Professional computer, the user would not be able to make changes, such as installing new programs or deleting system files. However, if you have forgotten or lost the password to your administrator account, and do not have a password reset disk, you do not have to worry now.

According to Windows XP help, you can follow the below-mentioned instructions to recover the administrator password:

  • In the first step, insert your Windows XP Pro install disc into your computer. Once you’ve done this, restart your computer to initiate a boot from the install disc. Now, press Enter when prompted to Press any key to boot from CD during the start up process.
  • Now, press Enter at the welcome screen to Setup Windows now. Once the welcome screen is set up, press F8 to accept the license agreement.
  • After you accept the license agreement, at the next screen, select your current installation of Windows XP Pro, as this would be the only option. This would be present with the up and down arrow keys; press R to begin the repair process.
  • The Windows operating system would now begin a disc check, and start copying the files. When the files are done copying, an automatic reboot will initiate. During the reboot, make sure you do not boot from your Windows XP Pro CD again. You can also contact Windows XP help anytime and seek expert advice from technicians to recover the administrator password.
  • Now, press Shift+F10 when you see the Installing Devices progress bar located in the lower left corner of your screen during the system reboot. This would open a command console that would enable you the access to your entire system.
  • Now, enter NUSRMGR.CPL in the command prompt and press Enter. In the next step, select the user account that you would like to change/remove the password of and enter a new password. Close the window and exit the command console to resume the system repair.
  • Once it is finished, log on to your computer using your new password once, and start installing the new program.
Therefore, you can follow these steps to recover the administrator password in your system. However, if you have any issues, feel free to contact our technical support.
