Adding Restart To The Start Screen

To restart Windows 8 in the regular fashion, one has to pull out Charms. You then choose Power settings and then select Restart. Would the whole thing not be easier if there was a shortcut to restart Windows 8? Matter of fact there is; use the following instructions and you can add restart to the Start screen or your desktop.

How to add a Restart option in Windows 8
  •  In the Start screen that opens first when you switch on the system, select the Desktop tile to go to the Desktop. Right click at some vacant spot on the desktop to pop out a context menu.
  • In this menu choose the New option and select Shortcut in the subsequent sub-menu that will appear from New.
  • A new window will appear that asks you to enter a location.
  • In the field that appears type shutdown /r /t 0, followed by Next.
  • Enter a name for the shortcut in the next screen, and then click the Finish button.
  • Change the shortcut’s icon and right click on the shortcut to bring out the menu. In this menu select the Properties option.
  • Click on Change icon in the Properties window.
  • If a warning appears select the OK button, and you will notice a new window open up filled with icons that you can set for this shortcut.
  • There are many icons available in this window and whichever you chose is according to personal taste. Just make sure that the icon is comprehendible for other users as well. Select the icon that you want to use and click on OK to close the window. Look for Run option again in the Properties window.
  • In the drop down menu net to Run click on the Minimized option.
  • Once this is done, you can click on Apply followed by OK.
  • You could also have the restart shortcut on the bottom taskbar instead of the desktop.
  • Make sure to select the option to pin to taskbar from the menu.
  • A copy of the restart shortcut will appear on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
  • Now you have a Restart shortcut right in your deskto
  • Right click on the shortcut that appears and click Pin to Start in the menu. This will pin this shortcut to the Start screen.
  • You can either continue keeping the desktop shortcut or remove it.
  • Return to the Start screen by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard. The restart shortcut will appear as a tile in the Start screen.
